This Saturday, April 27th, the Western New York Flash will welcome the Boston Breakers to town as they play their first home game of the season at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, New York.

Both WNY and Boston are seeking their first wins of the season. Currently, the Flash sit in 8th place in the NWSL standings, while the Breakers are in 6th place. However, the Breakers have only played one game this season. They were scheduled to travel to Kansas City in Week Two to take on FC Kansas City, but the league decided to reschedule the game “due to increased security measures that have impacted travel from the area” following the Boston Marathon bombings.

“We’re looking forward to getting back on the field and playing a game,” Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. “The Flash has always been a good team; they play a good game. It’ll be an exciting game on both sides of the ball.”

However, those circumstances didn’t affect the Flash. They traveled to Germantown, Maryland to take on the Washington Spirit. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Spirit heavily pressured Western New York’s backline right off the bat, but the Flash were able to cut off many crosses, and rookie goalie Adrianna Franch came up with some big saves. Around the 20th minute, the Flash were able to slow the game down and create their own chances, but they were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.

The first goal didn’t come until the 85th minute, when the Flash’s Samantha Kerr tapped the ball past Ashlyn Harris, but the Spirit struck right back off a PK.

Looking back to Week One, the Breakers did have quality chances coming off the feet of Sydney Leroux, Lianne Sanderson, and Kyah Simon, but if they want to get past the Flash and standout rookie goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, they will have to finish their chances.

UPDATE: Western New York Flash will be without forward Abby Wambach as she’ll sit out at least this match as a precautionary measure due to last week’s concussion/not-a-concussion injury.

Keys to the Game

Again, the game will be on Saturday, April 27th, at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, NY at 7:35pm EDT.
