During today’s NWSL National Player Allocation the Washington Spirit were allocated Ashlyn Harris (USA), Ali Krieger (USA), Lori Lindsey (USA), Robin Gayle (CAN), Diana Matheson (CAN), Alina Garciamendez (MEX) and Teresa Worbis (MEX).

Let’s take a closer look at the newest members of the Washington Spirit:
Ashlyn Harris (USA, GK)
Named the 2004 Gatorade National Women’s Soccer Player of the Year during which her high school team was ranked #1 in the country. Played on the United States U-16, U-17 and U-19 teams. Attended the University of North Carolina and compiled a 23-3-1 record as a senior. Originally drafted by the St. Louis Athletica (WPS) in the 2010 WPS Draft, she signed with the Washington Freedom (WPS) after the Athletica folded. In 2011, Harris became the starting goalkeeper for the Western New York Flash (WPS) where she was named the goalkeeper of the year and helped her team win the WPS Championship.
Ali Krieger (USA, D)
Attended Penn State University and was named NCAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and was a two-time All-American and a first team NSCAA All-American. She was also part of four-consecutive Big-Ten Championship teams. Member of 2007 W-League Champions Washington Freedom. In 2008 she was allocated to the Washington Freedom (WPS) during the initial WPS allocation. Member of the USWNT that won the 2011 Algarve Cup.
Lori Lindsey (USA, M)
Nicknamed “Lightning” by her USWNT teammates, Lindsey has played on USA’s U-16, U-17 and U-21 teams. She also played in one match during the 2011 World Cup and was an alternate for the 2012 Olympics. Lindsey played for the University of Virginia and was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and was named NSCAA Second-Team All-American in 2001. Played for the Washington Freedom (W-League) and was part of the 2007 W-League Championship team. She was drafted by the Washington Freedom (WPS) in the 2009 WPS Draft and then was the first player taken in the WPS Expansion Draft (Philadelphia Independence) the following season. She finished her WPS career playing for the Western New York Flash.
Robyn Gayle (CAN, D)
Played for Canada in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics as well as the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. Attended the University of North Carolina and was the team captain in 2006. Named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the 2006 NCAA College Cup during which her team won the national championship.
Diana Matheson (CAN, M)
Played for Princeton University and was voted Ivy League Player of the Year in 2007 and Princeton Women’s Athlete of the Year in 2008. Was part of the goal medal winning Canada team during the 2011 Pan American games. She also scored the winning goal in the bronze-medal match against France in the 2012 Olympics.
Alina Garciamendez, (MEX, D)
Captain of the Mexico team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Germany. Starter during the 2011 World Cup. Played for Stanford University and started every match since she arrived in 2009. She set the school record for starting 100 matches. MAC Herman Trophy semifinalist her senior season (2012).
Guadalupe Worbis (MEX, M)
Played for Mexico in the 2004 Olympics and the 2011 World Cup.
