Sky Blue FC’s season kicks off on Sunday, April 14th as they take on the Western New York Flash at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey. The match will begin at 6PM Eastern Time. As of yet there is no information on how the match will be broadcasted; fans can keep an eye on Sky Blue FC’s Twitter and Facebook pages for announcements regarding a live stream, which should be available for all home games.

Sky Blue boasts of having won the first ever WPS championship in 2009, while the Flash captured the WPS championship in 2011. Naturally, the teams’ current rosters for the NWSL season feature nearly completely different players. While Sky Blue is not comprised of the most famous names in women’s soccer, the lineup is set with competent players up and down the field. A squad of a solid defensive unit anchored by veteran Christie Rampone, with imposing strikers in Kelley O’Hara and Lisa DeVanna, Sky Blue is sure to be a threat this season. O’Hara has already become one of the most talked about players in the league, with three goals in two games as a reestablished forward. Sophie Schmidt and Brittany Bock are valuable assets of the midfield, and have looked sharp in the team’s two preseason matches. One upset of preseason was the news of expected starting goalkeeper Jill Loyden out for three months due to a broken bone in the left hand. Brittany Cameron is the likely starter for Sunday’s game as the more experienced goalkeeper, with 23 year old Ashley Baker on the sidelines. All in all, Jim Gabarra has a very well rounded and promising team heading into the home opener.

On the other side of the pitch is Rochester’s WNY Flash, headlined by Abby Wambach. The team has recorded impressive wins in the preseason, and outscored its four preseason college opponents 16-1. Remarkably, seven different players have already tallied goals for the Flash: Perez, Adriana, Kerr, Robinson, Wambach, DiMartino, and Zerboni. This scoring streak will be put to the test as the Flash take on a more challenging opponent. With both teams looking to start off their seasons with a win, Sunday’s match should be quite a battle.
