The Seattle Reign FC announced the signing of free agent defender Elli Reed.
“I am extremely excited about this opportunity to play for Seattle Reign FC,” said Reed. “I am looking forward to learning from the experienced coaching staff and to play alongside the talented players that the club has already signed. Seattle is a city that has become known around the country for its soccer culture and I cannot wait to represent Seattle in the NWSL.”
Drafted 8th overall by the Western New York Flash in the 2011 WPS Draft, Reed was then traded to the Boston Breakers and made 21 appearances for Boston in the WPS and WPSL Elite. In July 2012 Reed joined FCR 2001 Duisburg of the German’s Women’s Bundesliga and has been playing alongside USWNT and Washington Sprit player Ashlyn Harris.
“Elli has experience of playing in the top American leagues as well as overseas,” said Reign FC coach Laura Harvey. “She knows what it takes to be successful in this league and we are excited for Elli to be part of our roster.”
No word on if Reed will be joining the Reign FC for opening day or will have to wait until the end of FCR 2001 Duisburg’s season and join the team in May just as Harris has planned. There have been rumors that FCR 2001 Duisburg will be filing for bankruptcy soon which may mean Reed could be in the Reign FC camp in time for the April 13th / 14th season opener.
