With Western New York Flash on a six match undefeated streak it might be easy to overlook the sixth place Chicago Red Stars going into Wednesday night’s match, but Chicago is attempting to climb out of the bottom three in NWSL standings on the back of a 3-1 against FC Kansas City.
The Red Stars have surged in the month of June scoring six goals in four matches. That’s more then their games in April and May combined. On the other end of the pitch, Erin McLeod and Taylor Vancil have combined for two shutouts while only allowing three goals.
The Flash could prove to be a test for Chicago as they attempt to hold New York’s dynamic attack off the board while creating opportunities against a Flash defense that has only allowed nine goals.
Fortunately for Chicago, they will not have to contest with the NWSL and Flash’s top scorer, Abby Wambach (away on international duty). Wambach had the game-tying goal for the Flash when these two teams first met four week ago. The Flash would go on to win that game 2-1.
