PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Thorns announced that they have waived forward Jessica Shufelt.
Shufelt, the 40th overall pick in the 2013 NWSL College Draft out of the University of Connecticut, appeared in 4 matches for a total of 31 minutes, mostly as a late-game substitute. Her longest appearance was 26 minutes in the Thorns’ 2-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars on June 1st.
“Jessica put in a lot of hard work and effort for the Thorns this season. We would like to sincerely thank her for her contributions to the team and hope for the best in her future endeavors,” said head coach Cindy Parlow Cone.
The move is likely a precursor to the signing of allocated United States international midfielder Tobin Heath, who arrived in Portland on Monday and began training with the Thorns on Tuesday. Heath is expected to make her Thorns debut Sunday against the Western New York Flash.
