The Portland Thorns FC announced the signing of midfielder Elizabeth Guess today. Guess, who was released earlier this week from Boston Breakers, where she had only been with Boston for about two weeks at the time of her release, playing in one match and recorded one assist.
“Elizabeth is a great addition to Thorns FC,” said Thorns head coach Cindy Parlow Cone. “We are thrilled to have her join us. She is capable of playing both in the midfield and on the front line and she is a great complement to the other players we have on the roster.”
Guess adds another solid, experience midfielder for the Thorns. Before signing with Boston, she spent last season playing with Dutch side ADO Den Haag on the joint Dutch-Belgium BeNe League, where she made 11 appearances, scoring 4 goals, including an appearance in the UEFA Champions League Round of 32. Prior to playing in Europe, she appeared with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the W-League in two separate stints, in 2009 and 2012, and in 2008 she appeared for the 5 games and scoring two goals for SoccerPlus Connecticut of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
The addition of Guess puts the Thorns roster at 19, not including US international midfielder Tobin Heath, who is expected to join the Thorns at the conclusion of the European season. Once Heath joins the Thorns, they will be at the roster limit of 20.
