Heading into the final two weeks of the inaugural NWSL season, six of the eight teams in the league still have a chance to make the playoffs. So far only FC Kansas City has punched their ticket into the playoffs.

Here’s what the other five teams will need to do (or not do) to make the playoffs … and we apologize if any of the following hurts your brain because, well, ours may have melted a little.

Portland Thorns FC will clinch a playoff spot if…

… the Thorns win or draw at the Breakers

OR

… the Red Stars draw or lose at the Spirit.

Sky Blue FC will clinch a playoff spot if…

… the Red Stars draw or lose at the Spirit.

The Western New York Flash will clinch a playoff spot if…

… the Flash win vs. the Reign AND the Red Stars draw or lose at the Spirit.

The Chicago Red Stars will be eliminated from the playoffs if…

… the Red Stars draw or lose at the Spirit AND the Flash win vs. the Reign.

The Boston Breakers will be eliminated from the playoffs if…

… the Breakers lose vs. the Thorns.

OR

… the Flash win vs. the Reign.

OR

… the Breakers draw vs. the Thorns AND the Flash draw vs. the Reign.

Since FC Kansas City is already in the playoffs, here are the scenarios for the club to clinch either the #1 or #2 seed:

For FCKC to clinch hosting a semifinal match (#1 or #2 see) …

Sky Blue FC AND Western New York Flash lose one of their remaining matches

OR

FC Kansas City wins one of their remaining matches

For FCKC to have home field advantage throughout the playoffs (#1 seed) …

Sky Blue FC, Western New York Flash and Portland Thorns FC all must lose one of their remaining matches.
