NWSL and FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG) announced today a one-year agreement that will have FOX Soccer channel broadcast a total of nine matches from the inaugural NWSL season.

“We are very pleased to announce this media agreement with FSMG,” said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. “Our fans will get the chance to see the high caliber of women’s soccer, and we also hope to create many new fans who will appreciate the amazing athletes and personalities in the league.”

FOX Soccer will televise one match per week beginning the week of July 8th. Six regular season matches and all three playoff matches, which includes the two semifinal games on August 24 and 25, and the championship game on August 31, are part of the agreement.

“A national TV contract is an important and necessary step towards our long-term goal of a financially sustainable league,” said Bill Predmore, owner of Seattle Reign FC.

According to Seattle Reign FC’s press release, “it is expected that all clubs … will make at least one appearance this season, but the final broadcast schedule has not yet been finalized.”

Although the first televised match has not been announced yet, the highlight match during the week of July 8th would be the Portland Thorns FC vs Western New York Flash match-up on July 14th at JELD-WEN Field. Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, Carli Llloyd, Christine Sinclair and a possible crowd 14,000+ would be very hard for the network and league to pass up as the showcase match.
