Chicago Red Stars – Julie Johnston
Johnston was responsible for netting the game-winning goal for Chicago, directing a header inside the far right post off a corner kick from Vanessa DiBernardo in the 59th minute to lead the Red Stars to a season-opening 1-0 win over visiting Western New York Flash on Saturday. Playing as a central defender, she also commanded the Red Stars defense to a clean sheet. Johnston was a first round draft pick, 3rd overall, in this year’s NWSL College Draft.
Houston Dash – Teresa Noyola
Noyola scored the tying and winning goals in the final 10 minutes of the Houston Dash’s 3-2 win over the Boston Breakers, the first victory in franchise history. Noyola, who came on as a substitute in the 76th minute, clipped a shot from the top of the box to the upper corner of the net in the 81st minute, then converted the game-winning penalty four minutes later.
Washington Spirit – Diana Matheson
Matheson was formidable in the attack and scored two goals at very important moments in the match. She also led the team defensively with organizing the midfield and tireless work off the ball to help see the Spirit to their first win of the season toping FC Kansas City 3-1.
Voting ends at 12:00pm CDT on Wednesday, April 21st.
