NWSL fans had a nice treat over their lunch hour today as Jared Montz from OnlineSoccerAcademy.com held a live video chat with Boston Breakers players Bianca D’Agostino, Sydney Leroux and Heather O’Reilly.
The chat, hosted on Google Hangouts, lasted a little over 50 minutes and according to Montz had an average of 400 live viewers at any given time. Fans were encouraged to post questions in YouTube’s live chat and via Twitter and it seemed like the players had a great time answering them; so much so that the original 30 minute chat ended up lasting nearly an hour.
Montz was in Boston on a “Soccer Walking America tour” where he is visiting 15 cities in 45 days to encourage players to join in on the OSA World Juggle-a-thon for Nothing But Nets on April 25th, World Malaria Day. Montz visited the Breakers practice to film “Soccer Walking Boston” with some of the players and afterward decided it would be “fun to hang out with Heather on a Google Plus Hangout so (his) fans and her fans could all join in” and thus the Google Hangout began.
Around the 33 minute mark, O’Reilly took it upon herself to “address something that has been asked about a few times” and that is her gameface.
“When I’m on the field competing I sometimes do weird things with my face,” O’Reilly said. “… I don’t know where it comes from. It’s just instinctual. There is a word for that and it’s Beast Mode … its worked for me for twenty-some years.”
Montz held a similar chat a few weeks ago with Lori Lindsey while filming “Soccer Walking DC” and plans on holding similar chats throughout his tour and the NWSL season.
In case you missed the chat, YouTube has archived it and we’ve embedded it below. Enjoy!
