The NWSL free agent signing period has been over for a few days and signing news has been few and far between, however today Dan Lauletta from The Lowdown confirmed that Nikki Washington is headed to the Portland Thorns FC. As of this posting neither the team nor the league has confirmed this signing.

The rumors of Washington heading to the Thorns actually started two weeks ago when Alex Morgan posted an Instagram photo of her and Washington with the message “Portland thorns!!”

A University of North Carolina graduate, Washington was a member of the United States U-20 team who won the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. She was drafted 5th overall in the 2010 WPS Draft by the Los Angeles Sol and jumped from team to team (sometimes due to a WPS team folding) before playing her final WPS season with the magicJack. After the WPS folded, Washington signed with the Pali Blues for her second stint with the club.
