The Portland Thorns FC had the eighth pick in the NWSL Draft and selected Kathryn Williamson from Florida. The Thorns then picked up Nicolette Radovcic (Central Florida), Amber Brooks (North Carolina) and Roxanne Barker (Pepperdine). Here is a little closer look at the Thorns draft picks:
8. Kathryn Williamson, D (Florida) – first round
Williamson spent the summer of 2012 playing with the Ottawa Fury which claimed the W-League title over the Pali Blues. She was named the MVP of the 2012 W-League Final Four. Was named to the Hermann Trophy watch list prior to the 2012 college season, but due to a torn right meniscus she only played 8 games. Was part of the National team U-16 pool selection in 2004-05.
16. Nicolette Radovcic, F (Central Florida) – second round
Radovcic was Central Florida’s leading scorer the past two seasons scoring eight times in 2011 and twelve in 2012 including five game winners. While in college she earned numerous awards including being named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team, NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team (2011) and an All-Conference USA First Team and All-Academic Team member her senior season.
24. Amber Brooks, M (North Carolina) – third round

Brooks, a senior at college soccer powerhouse UNC, competed with the U-23 U.S. National Team in 2011 and 2012 and has also played with the U-20, U-17, and U-16 National Teams. As the captain of her collegiate team, she led her team to the National Championship of the 2012 Women’s College Cup where they defeated Penn St. 4-1. Brooks will be playing for FC Bayern Frauen at least until May of this year before she decides if she’ll join Portland.
32. Roxanne Barker, GK (Pepperdine) – fourth round
Was a member of the 2012 South African Olympic Team and started one match during the games versus Sweden. Barker finished her career at Baker as the all-time leader in wins (47) and starts (79) and was a four-time All-WCC selection.
