The Houston Dash traded their 3rd round pick (19th overall) in Friday’s NWSL Collegiate Draft to FC Kansas City for goalkeeper Bianca Henninger.

“We made a great trade in solidifying our goalkeeping needs,” said Dash head coach Randy Waldrum. “Bianca played for me with our U-23’s, and she is one of the best young US goalkeepers out there.”

Henninger, FCKC’s second selection in last year’s NWSL Supplemental Draft, started two matches for the club in 2013 notching one shutout.

“Bianca was a very popular player on our roster last season and she will be greatly missed,” said Technical Director Huw Williams. “Sometimes you have to make decisions based on the best interests of the player. With this trade Bianca will have an opportunity for more playing time and we have an opportunity to improve our team in the draft.”

Henninger is projected to backup Erin McLeod who the Dash acquired last week in trade that sent Melissa Tancredi to the Chicago Red Stars.
