Today USWNT and Boston Breakers defender Heather Mitts announced she is retiring from professional soccer after a remarkable 28 year career in the sport.

The time has come for me to move onto a new stage of my career,” Mitts posted on her Facebook page. “I truly appreciate the women who paved the way, to my friends and dear teammates that I will never forget.”

Although she’s retiring from playing soccer, Mitts indicated she doesn’t plan on staying too far from the sport.

“I will be working as a sideline analyst & ambassador for the Philadelphia Union while taking part in other soccer related projects,” Mitts posted. “I also look forward to starting a family and becoming an ultimate soccer mom.”

Below are a couple videos of Mitts. The first video is Mitts discussing the 2012 Olympics and her retirement plans.
