The Boston Breakers announced today they have signed their former first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2010 WPS draft, goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. The signing is pending both league approval and receipt of her International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“I’m really excited to be back in Boston,” Naeher said. “I enjoyed my time and the experience in Germany, but I am happy to have the opportunity to be able to play in Boston again.”

Naeher had been playing for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the Frauen Bundesliga since the end of the 2011 WPS season and posted a 29-6-3 record with 21 shutouts over two seasons in goal.

“We’re excited having Alyssa joining the team. Obviously we know her well, having coached her here before,” Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. “She got a lot of experience in Germany. We’re glad to have her back.”

Although Naeher will most likely take over the role as the Breakers starting goalkeeper, there may be a competition as the team has been splitting time between Ashley Phillips and Cecilia Santiago with both posting a 1.00 GAA through three matches a piece.
