FC Kansas City returns home for their third match in eight days following a Wednesday night 2-2 draw with Sky Blue FC in New Jersey. Portland comes from a draw with Sky Blue as well, a scoreless battle featuring strong keeper performances from SBFC’s Brittany Cameron and Portland’s Karina LeBlanc.

What to Expect: Both teams continue to play leapfrog in the standings, with Portland battling SBFC and FCKC battling a surging WNY Flash team. A win for the Thorns puts them atop the leaderboard and a win for FCKC propels them back into third.

The teams meet for the third time this season. The first meeting in Kansas City ended in a 1-1 draw following a controversial penalty awarded to Portland. The second match at JELD-WEN turned into a shootout, and Portland pulled out the win 4-3.

FCKC’s late-game meltdown on Wednesday (in which they conceded two goals in the final 7+ minutes of the match) could have lingering effects on the back line, and the heavy minutes over the last week may slow the FCKC attack. With first place on the line and Portland’s LeBlanc coming off a strong performance against the league leaders last Sunday, look for Portland to pounce for the win.

Score Prediction: 2-0 in favor of Portland with both goals from Alex Morgan.
