FC Kansas City announced today the signing of free agent midfielder Sinead Farrelly completing the Blues free agent signing class for 2013.
“I’m excited to come out to KC,” Farrelly said. “I know a few of the other players and we’re all anxious to get started. I’m looking forward to being in a new place with a new team.”
Farrelly, a member of U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-20 U.S. National Teams, was the second overall pick in the 2011 WPS draft by the Philadelphia Independence. She started 13 of 14 games in her rookie season with the Independence netting her first career goal, a game-winner, against the Western New York Flash.
“We’ve added one of the most dynamic playmakers in Sinead,” said Team President Brian Budzinski. “Her technical ability, vision and quickness will become apparent as soon as she steps on the pitch.”
According to Budzinski, Farrelly was the first player to commit to playing for FC Kansas City. She is also the fifth former 2011 Philadelphia Independence player FC Kansas City has allocated/signed/targeted joining Nicole Barnhart (allocated), Jen Buczkowski (signed), Leigh Ann Robinson (signed) and Christina DiMartino (supplemental draft). If the WPS had not folded prior to the 2012 season, you could also add Lauren Cheney (allocated player) and Bianca Henninger (supplemental draft) to that list.
