Congratulations are in store for Portland Thorns FC’s defender Kat Williamson who was voted on by fans as the Week One MVP.

In the vote held on Twitter, Williamson received 34% of the vote, edging out Western New York Flash’s Adrianna Franch (33%).

Williamson was part of a back-line that helped the Thorns secure a hard-fought road draw in the NWSL Inaugural match against FC Kansas City. After giving up an early goal to FCKC in just the 3rd minute of the match and being on the receiving end of eight shots in the first half, the Thorns settled down in the second half and stayed in the match long enough for the team to convert on a late penalty kick to earn the draw.
