With their preseason camp officially opened, the Chicago Red Stars released the names of the 26 players who will be competing for a regular season roster spot.

All four of the Red Stars NWSL College Draft picks and all five Supplemental Draft picks are on their preseason roster.


The Red Stars also invited seven non-allocated/drafted/free-agent players to their preseason camp:

Natalia Daniels (M – Cleveland State) – During her senior campaign with Cleveland State, Daniels scored three goals while assisting on six others.

Hanna Gilmore (M – Baylor) – Scored seven goals while assisting on two more during her senior season at Baylor. She finished her Bears career with 57 points on 23 goals and 11 assists.

Erin Kane (GK – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) – While at UWM Kane was named to the First Team Freshmen All-American in 2005, was a two-time Academic All American and a four year Horizon League First Team All-Conference member. Kane played for both the St. Louis Athletica and Red Stars in the WPS.

Maureen “Mo” Smunt (D – Northern Illinois University) – During her senior season, Smunt was named to the First Team All-Mid American Conference and Academic All Mid-American Conference Team. Even though she primarily played defender she was third on the team in shots and shots on goal. After college, Smunt joined the Force FC of the USL.

Alissa VonderHaar (M – Univ. of Tennessee) – Earned Academic All-SEC honors in both her junior and senior seasons at Tennessee after transferring from DePaul.

Previously played with the Red Stars in the WPS

Julianne Sitch (D) – Attended DePaul University and holds the career records in goals, assists, and points. Played for Sky Blue FC (WPS), Chicago Red Stars (WPS), Western New York Flash (WPS) and the Atlanta Beat (WPS). Was also part of the US U19 and U21 player pools.

Lydia Vandenbergh (M) – Was selected by the St. Louis Atheltica in the 10th round of the 2009 WPS draft while she was serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida State. After the Athletica released her the Red Stars signed her to their developmental team and was called up to the senior club during her 2010 campaign.

NWSL Teams are allowed a maximum of 32 players on their preseason rosters before narrowing it down to 20 that will be on the roster for the regular season.
