FC Kansas City announced today they have agreed to terms with NWSL Supplemental Draft pick Casey Loyd (Nogueira).
“I’m very excited about FC Kansas City giving me the opportunity to play the beautiful game,” said Loyd. “… really, I just can’t wait to get to camp and start playing.”
FC Kansas City’s Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski is also excited to have Loyd on the roster and believe she’ll fit in with his plans for the team.
“We have a style of play here that requires great footskill and smart decision making,” Andonovski said. “Casey (Loyd) will be able to step in and help immediately.”
Loyd was considered one of the top free agents on the market prior to the NWSL Supplemental Draft where FC Kansas City selected her in the fourth round (30th overall), a selection we thought was the steal of the draft. Some soccer analysts were concerned that Loyd may stay in the Dallas where her husband, Zach Loyd, plays for FC Dallas (MLS), however that concern did not resonate through the FC Kansas City camp. “We feel like if Casey is going to be playing, this is the place she is going to play at,” FC Kansas City president Brian Budzinski told EqualizerSoccer.com after the draft. “We feel very good that she’s going to play in this league this year.”
Loyd is expected to be in camp this week and will participate in Saturday’s closed-door scrimmage against the University of Kansas.
