MATCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED

“Due to increased security measures that have impacted travel from the area, we have made the decision to reschedule this weekend’s game between Kansas City and the Breakers,” said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. “We believe the best course of action would be to allow the Boston staff and players to remain home during this difficult time.”

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has announced that this Saturday’s game between FC Kansas City and the Boston Breakers will be rescheduled to a future date due to the ongoing situation in Boston. The game was scheduled to be played at 8:35 p.m. ET at Shawnee Mission District Stadium in Overland Park, Kansas.

FC Kansas City will have their second home game of the season this Saturday, April 20th, when they host the Boston Breakers at 7:35pm local time (CDT) at the Shawnee Mission District Stadium. Saturday’s game will be the Breaker’s first away game of the season.

Both Kansas City and the Breakers are coming off of 1-1 ties from week one NWSL action, and both will be looking to secure their first win of the season.

In week one, FC Kansas City defensive midfielders Desiree Scott and Jen Buczkowski were able to intercept many passes that the Portland Thorns directed at star strikers Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair, allowing the Thorns to have limited opportunities on goal. At times FC Kansas City were able to string together some nice combination play, and they will be looking at trying to go forward more often than week one, as their inaugural NWSL game resulted in only three shots on goal.

FC Kansas City’s back line will have the task of containing a promising looking Breakers attack, with the likes of Sydney Leroux, Kyah Simon, Lianne Sanderson and Heather O’Reilly all showing in their first NWSL game that they can attack with pace. Last week, the Breakers struggled to put the ball in the back of the Washington Spirit net despite having seven shots on goal, due in large part to some stellar goalkeeping from Spirit goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris. The Breakers will need to improve their finishing in front of goal in order to beat FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart, who is an excellent shot stopper herself.

Looking at weekly attendance, having two back to back home games in Kansas City will allow the club to see if their week one 6,784 fan sellout crowd is sustainable, or if it was inflated due to the excitement of NWSL opening day, and stars such as Morgan and Sinclair being in town.
