The Boston Breakers announced they have signed 28 year old midfielder Elizabeth Guess as a discovery player for the upcoming NWSL season.
Guess won three National Championships in her four college seasons with the University of North Carolina Tarheels. After graduating, Guess won a WPSL regular season title in 2008 with SoccerPlus Connecticut and a regular season USL W-League title in 2009 with the Atlanta Silverbacks. In 2012, Guess played for ADO Den Haag in the BeNe league, the newly formed women’s professional league in Belgium and the Netherlands, scoring four goals in eleven games.
Guess revealed that current Breaker and USWNT midfielder Heather O’Reilly, whom Guess played four seasons with at UNC, was a main factor in her decision to come play in Boston. “I was pretty much set on going back to Europe, and she would text me every couple days, ‘Breakers, Breakers,’ so I started to consider and thought, ‘that could be pretty fun’.” Guess also played her freshman year at UNC alongside current Breakers defender Cat Whitehill.
Breakers coach Lisa Cole expressed her excitement over the signing of Guess saying, “Libby’s a really talented player. She’s crafty on the ball, has a lot of tricks up her sleeve, and is going to give us more depth in our attacking midfield. She’s just an overall good soccer player.” Guess also has experience playing out wide and up top in a striker position.
Look for Guess to help to bolster the Breakers midfield alongside O’Reilly in their NWSL debut on April 14th against the Washington Spirit.
Thanks for all the love everyone. So thankful and excited to be an @bostonbreakers this season!
