The Boston Breakers announced today they have signed defender Kia McNeill.
“I am thrilled that a women’s professional soccer league is back, and I am really looking forward to representing the Breakers in the NWSL,” McNeill said. “I am excited to join the Boston Breakers this year … I’m looking forward to working with Lisa Cole and being a part of a team with all the support in place to win a championship.”
Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole was equally excited about having McNeill on the field for the Breakers. “I’m excited about Kia,” Cole said. “I think she’ll compliment Cat (Whitehill) on the back line. These are two of the best center backs in the league. I’m excited she’ll be in Boston, playing in front of her home crowd.”
While at Boston College McNeill switched from playing up front to defender in her senior season and still finished her career at BC ranked eighth all time in points with 61. McNeill was drafted ninth overall in the 2009 WPS Draft by the St. Louis Athletica and became part of one of the dominant defenses in the league playing alongside Tina Ellertson and in front of Hope Solo.
