The second trade in NWSL history was announced today as the Boston Breakers traded their 2nd round pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft to the Western New York Flash for defender Melinda Mercado.
“We are very happy to add Melinda to the team,” Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. “We need some depth to our back line with the injuries we have had. She is a good young player who can play center back and wide if needed. I liked her coming our of college and am excited to have her join us.”
Mercado was drafted by the Boston Breakers in 2012 while the team was in the WPS, but the league ceased operations just two weeks later.
Mercado has yet to see any playing time this season after the first three matches.
